Dads Are Awesome!

Arriving Earthside

Birth of Sloane

You would think after 4 and half years of being a doula that I would be kinda tired of watching birth videos. Nope!  My poor kids still have to warn their friends to avert their eyes if they walk by the computer while I am on it. Today I add another favorite to my list. The Home Birth of Sloane is very modest- no private parts shown. My favorite part through the whole thing is the father.  He is so intent on his wife. A beautiful example of two becoming one.
This beautiful laboring mother is an amazing example of patience, perseverance and trust. Trust in her body and trust with her beautiful birth team. Love her!!
This video also has one of the few times that I have seen cord burning. Instead of clipping the cord with scissors it is separated by the flame of two candles. To learn more visit www.cordburning.com

Doulas and Midwives

This is a slide show that shares some beautiful moments in the birth process. It features some of my favorite people and birth photographers, Robin Baker with Birth Blessings and Catie Stephens of Vuefinder Photography. These ladies are true artists. They understand birth and know how to capture the vast beauty that few of us get to witness or remember.

Singing to The Baby by Penny Simkin

Such a beautiful video about singing to baby while in utero. There is some birth nudity, breasts, but a sweet example of what it looks like after birth. My favorite part of this video is when the big sister, who is a toddler, sings to her sibling. Although the father singing Happy Birthday in Spanish is a close second!

Best Diaper Changing Technique for Newborns to Reduce Colic

How to diaper a baby 101. This is seriously brilliant. This is not your typical diaper change routine where you hold the baby's feet in the air and wipe. I wish I had know this when my kiddos were infants.

The Process of Labor

This is a fantastic video that was created by a birth center in India, Healthy Mother Sactum. I love how this midwife demonstrates how a mother's movement affects the pelvis and aids with labor progress.

Reducing Infant Mortality Video

Reducing Infant Mortality from Debby Takikawa on Vimeo.

I found this beautiful video over at one of my favorite sites, Spinning Babies. Personally I have a hard time seeing infants who are struggling so the first 3ish minutes were not my favorite. Get through those and learn a wealth of information. Minute 9ish talks about the incredible positive impact of breastfeeding on avoiding infant mortality. Many awesome moments of breastfeeding mothers.
I did hesitate a little in sharing this clip. In the video, the births that had minimal interventions are by mothers that many would consider hippy-ish or too natural because they are often naked or birthing in a position other then on their back. Dress or birth in a position that is comfortable to you. Intervention free or natural does not mean naked. For the birth of our 4th child I choose to wear a tankini top because I did not want my ta-tas flopping around like they did in my 3rd birth.
