Electronic fetal heart monitoring

A lesson on electronic fetal heart monitoring. <---link div="">Above is a link to learn more on efm
In a hospital setting being hooked up to the "machine" for monitoring of contractions and the baby's heart beat is something that it a unavoidable. To understand just what that "machine that goes beep" is telling us I found this tutorial. I love that it also describes the effects of labor interventions. It is important to remember that this machine is not the saving grace that it is often made out to be. Study after study shows that it promotes unnecessary c-sections instead of avoiding them. Yuck I know, and man is it uncomfortable!
Here are a couple sites that discuss the disadvantages of relying too much on this machine.
